Abstract
Aphasia is a communication disorder that results from damage to parts of the brain. The Boston classification of aphasia is a standard system of differentiating types of aphasia. Fluency, comprehension, and repetition are the basic language function components to determine a classification of aphasia. This lecture outlines classifications, prognosis, and conventional treatments of aphasia. We then propose our acupuncture treatment strategies that are guided by the classification of aphasia and assessment of basic language function. These strategies may more easily guide treatment and increase effectiveness.
