Abstract
[Nara Yazaemon] was a craftsman who worked with precious metals and inadvertently became the creator of Japan's first set of dashin tools -- a needle and mallet used together. The dashin method, in time, would spread throughout Japan before falling into relative obscurity. Nara's sample book is an important piece in the story of an acupuncture method that captures the imagination but has few historical records. Here I will summarize what is known of the dashin's early history and follow with detailed descriptions of some of the first tools of our trade.
