Abstract

Thalamic pain is one of the major clinical manifestations of thalamic syndrome as a result of damage to the thalamus (stroke, tumor, etc.). It is characterized by constant spontaneous pain in theother side of the body, as well as loss of sensation and hypersensitivity. The condition can be aggravated by exposure to strong light, wind, particular smells, high pitched sounds, emotional distress, and so on. Thalamic pain is the prdominant type in post-stroke central pain, often secondary to cerebral infarction in the blood supply areas of the artery of corpus striatum and geniculate artery. The present study was aimed to discover an effective way to manage thalamic pain in order to help the patients.
