Abstract
It is a commonplace of acupuncture technique that it is best to place filiform needles so the needling sensation will manifest in the diseased area. This is usually accomplished by placing the needles locally to the diseased area or by stimulating acupoints which communicate directly with the diseased area. However, when it is necessary to select points located in the limbs in order to treat organ or head problems, it can be difficult to make the sensation disperse from the distal area to the diseased area. A group of needling techniques employing filiform needles has been specifically designed to address this difficulty in relation to zang/fu disorders and joint conditions.
