Abstract

In 1955, Qin Bo-Wei in Shanghai republished a book he considered essential reading in traditional Chinese gynaecology. The book, the Song Shi Mi Fang(Secret Formulas from the Song Family) was written in 1612 by Song Lin-Gao. Qin did not specify the origin of his copy, but a more critical copy of the same book published in 1997 speculated that it came from the Qin family private collection. The Beijing China Research Association into Chinese Medicine possesses yet another hand-written copy dating from the Ming dynasty. In the Song family traditional history, Song Lin-Gao was the 27th generation in a direct line from the lineage’s Tang dynasty founder, Song Jing.
