Abstract

The diverse philosophy of the Dao is premised upon the teachings of Laozi [c. 6th-5th centuries BCE], and Zhuangzi [369-286 BCE], and their various spiritual descendants. Another important example of Daoist thinking was that of the Huang-Lao tradition which developed during the Han Dynasty (206 BCE-220 CE), and integrated the work of the Yellow Emperor (Huang Di), with that of Laozi. The Huang-Lao tradition blended Daoist developmental philosophy, with that of the rigid political thinking associated with Legalism.
