Abstract
With its extensive and broad use in a wide variety of conditions, generations of physicians over the years have held several theories on deficiency taxation. Many have personal beliefs as to what and where the concept and its formulas are applicable. One example is in the following quote by Xu Lingtai: "The formula, Xiao Jianzhong Tang (Minor Construct the Middle Decoction), treats yin cold and yang decline deficiency taxation, which is the opposite of right [qi] and yin deficiency with flaring fire. Charlatans use it incorrectly, and cause harm to many!
