Abstract

First, I would like to introduce myself and why I have written this paper. I have had a professional interest in externally contracted diseases for more than five decades. In the ‘60s and early ‘70s I was fortunate to study as an apprentice under Shi Jimin, one of the foremost classic formulas experts in the Chongqing area. In 1982, I obtained a master’s degree in cold-damage studies at the then Chengdu College of TCM, where I studied under some true masters, most of whom used classic formulas as their defaults. After working at the Chongqing Institute of TC for a few years, I moved to Seattle in 1988 and have lived and worked here since. In 2006 I graduated with a Ph.D. in Shang Han Lun (Discussion of Cold Damage) studies from the China Academy of TCM in Beijing, where I studied under the renowned cold-damage expert Nie Huimin. I have many years of clinical experience. While I have seen just a few patients with documented covid-19, I have considerable experience with similar conditions and have closely followed the situation of the literature from China. I believe that sharing my understanding of this phenomen will give those of us who end up treating this disease a firm practical and theoretical foundation.
