Abstract

Objective: to observe and evaluate the therapeutic effect of auricular plaster therapy treating heroin users with protracted abstinence symptoms. Method: 90 patients were randomly divided into a treatment group of receiving auricular point sticking therapy, a control group receiving auricular point sticking therapy following detoxification, and an intervention group who only underwent detoxification. There were 30 patients in each group. The auricular plaster interventional therapy was administered on the second day following detoxification treatment in the treatment group, while urine test was still positive. The auricular plaster interventional therapy of the other two groups were carried out when urine test was negative, after compulsory detoxification treatment (the third day after stopping methadone treatment). Wang bu liu xing, or cowherb seed) was used in the treatment. 15 treatments were given to all 3 groups. Therapeutic effect was evaluated according to the castigatory heroin abusers protracted abstinence symptoms evaluation form. Results: dramatic decline of the protracted abstinence symptoms evaluation score in detoxification auricular point treatment group two weeks and 30 days after the first assessment, compared to the abstinence auricular point treatment group and the abstinence auricular point control group. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.05, P<0.01). The score in the abstinence auricular point treatment group was obviously lower than that in the abstinence auricular point control group, statistically significant (P<0.01). Conclusion: auricular plaster therapy markedly improve symptoms of heroin abusers protracted abstinence; early detoxification intervention treatment obviously improves heroin abusers protracted abstinence symptoms; auricular plaster therapy plays an important effect in treatment during the most severe period of withdrawal, and is not a placebo effect.
