Abstract

Objective: to summarize the clinical efficacy of smoking cessation treated with Chinese medicinal plaster and psychological counseling as well as to explore the advantages of this therapy and the prospect of its development. Methods: 900 smokers were evaluated during their smoking cessation therapy (among which, 100 cases received simple psychological intervention and the other 800 received comprehensive therapy with Chinese medicinal plaster and psychological counseling), the severity of withdrawal symptoms and the success rate of smoking cessation were summarized and analyzed. Results: the total success rate of reduction of withdrawal symptoms was 83% in the treatment group which was apparently higher than the 16% in the control group, presenting statistical significant difference (P<0.01). Conclusion: comprehensive therapy with Chinese medicinal plaster and psychological counseling has better efficacy and shorter duration of treatment. It eliminates nicotine dependence more quickly and cuts down on relapse rate. Comprehensive therapy with Chinese medicinal plaster and psychological counseling presents its own advantages and deserves to be promoted in clinical application. Further study should be conducted on it.
