Abstract

Objective: to investigate the efficacy of acupoint application of antiasthmatic paste during different time in treating infantile cough and dyspnea. Methods: one hundred and twenty inpatients were randomly allocated to four groups. Group A was treated by acupoint application during dog days and on the winter solstice; and group D was treated on an unselected day. The symptoms and signs were examined in the four groups of patients before and after treatment. The marked efficacy rate and the efficacy rate were calculated in each group. A statistical analysis was made to compare their therapeutic effects. Results: regarding to the comparison of marked efficacy rate and efficacy rate among the four groups, the highest is group A, and this is group B, group C and group D in order. The therapeutic effect is the best in group A and B. Conclusion: acupoint application of antiasthmatic herbal paste in dog days can prevent asthma and reduce the clinical symptoms and signs.
