Abstract
Objective: to observe the clinical curative effect of needle-warming moxibustion combined with massage to treat periarthritis of the shoulder and seek an effective treatment for bursitis in the shoulder. Method: 72 cases were divided into a treatment group and a control group, 36 cases for each group. The treatment group was treated by points around the lesion and points along its own meridian. Needle-warming moxibustion was done at jianyu (L1 15), jianlio (TE 14), and jianqian (M-UE-48) on the involved side; massage was performed by the method of point pressure, pressing, kneading, and pinching. The control group was treated by needle-warming moxibustion only. Patients in both groups were treated once a day, with 10 days as a course of treatment. 2 courses were considered an observation period. Results: the total effective rate of the treatment group was 97.22%, while the control group was 80.56%; the treatment group was obviously superior to the control group. Through revisits during the following 3-6 months, it was found that the long-term effect of the treatment group was better than the control group. Conclusion: the combination of needle-warming moxibustion and massage can warm meridians to dissipate cold, dredge meridians and collaterals and promote blood stagnation to relieve pain. It is obviously superior to the pure needle-warming moxibustion treatment. It has a short course of treatment and rapid action, and is safe and reliable and easily accepted by patients. It is of great value in clinical practice.
