Abstract

Objective: to evaluate the clinical effect of acupuncture combined with traditional Chinese herbal medicine on facial neuritis. Method: 90 cases of facial neuritis treated in yuzhong hospital of traditional Chinese medicine from October 2013 to March 2015 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided into acupuncture group and the combined group in the order of admission, 45 cases in each group. The patients in the acupuncture group had received acupuncture, once daily, following the acute phase of facial paralysis. The combined group had received an herbal decoction twice daily in addition to daily acupuncture. The effect and recovery time of the two groups as well as clinical therapeutic effect were observed and compared. Results: the total effective rate was 97.8% in the combined group compared with 66.7% in the acupuncture group; the markedly effective time and recovery time in the combined group were also significantly shorter than those in the acupuncture group (P<0.05). Conclusion: acupuncture combined with traditional Chinese herbal medicine for facial neuritis is highly efficacious, can shorten the recovery time and is superior to acupuncture alone. This combined approach is worth of clinical promotion.
