Abstract

Objective: to explore the clinical effect of acupuncture and moxibustion treatment on lumbar disc herniation. Methods: 120 patients with lumbar disc herniation were randomly divided into three groups: the rehabilitation group, acupuncture group and combination group. The rehabilitation group was given basic rehabilitation therapy, the acupuncture group was given acupuncture and moxibustion, while the combination group was treated with acupuncture and rehabilitation therapy, continuously for 1 week. Analysis: Differences of Japanese orthopedic association score (JOA), McGill pain score, inflammatory factors and the range of lumbar flexion (LFR) was compared between the three groups of patients in the early, middle and end stage of treatment. Results: after treatment, JOA score, McGill pain score, inflammatory factor levels and LFR as well as other aspects of the three groups of patients were significantly improved (P < 0.05), the acupuncture superior to the rehabilitation group; and improvements in the combination group showed a significant level of improvement ( P < 0.05). Conclusion: acupuncture combined with rehabilitation therapy can relieve the pain of lumbar disc herniation, improve motor function and raise quality of life for patients.
