Abstract
Sections one and two of this review paper analyze knee osteoarthritis from a modern Western medicine perspective and a traditional Chinese medicine perspective. The etiology, pathology, differentiations and treatment of knee osteoarthritis are presented from both Western-medicine and Chinese-medicine perspectives. Chinese medicine and acupuncture treatment protocols are presented. In the third section, studies are presented which demonstrate how acupuncture may alleviate knee osteoarthritis, along with recent clinical trials which validate the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment for knee osteoarthritis, along with recent clinical trials which validate the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment for knee osteoarthritis. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses are also included.
