Abstract

Objective: to evaluate the clinical curative effect of acupuncture in treatment of tumor patients with insomnia. Methods: Two hundred and eight cases of tumor patients with insomnia were randomly divided into an acupuncture group and a pharmacology control group, 104 cases in each group. The patients in the control group were given oral estazolam tablets. The total effective rate, PSQI were observed before and after treatment and follow-up respectively. Results: Both groups patients' sleep patterns improved to varying degrees. Total effective rate after treatment and the follow-up improved significantly, (P < 0.05). In the acupuncture group, all differences in scores except for sleep disorder were statistically significant, (P < 0.05) before and after follow-up and after treatment showed no statistical differences. Comparison of before and after scores in the pharmacology group revealed that differences in all scores, except for discomfort upon walking, were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Comparison of before treatment and follow-up scores of sleep time, sleep disorder and discomfort upon waking showed no statistical differences. After treatment and follow-up, in addition to sleep disorders and discomfort after waking up, differences in the rest of the scores were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture significantly improves sleep quality in patients with tumor and the long-term effect is much better than pharmacological methods.
