Abstract

Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) is a kind of autoimmune peripheral neuropathy characterized by peripheral nerve demyelination and infiltration of inflammatory cells into small vessels, associated with protein cell separation in cerebrospinal fluid. The onset is acute or subacute. The clinical manifestations include increased symmetrical paralysis, flaccid paralysis of limbs and various degrees of sensory disturbance. For the majority of patients, nerve function recovers within several weeks or months, but a few people will have permanent neurological dysfunction. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that GBS belongs to the category of "flaccidity," and it is due to damp heat invading meridians, injuring the liver, spleen and kidney, resulting in insufficiency of blood and essence and disorder of the muscle and tendons. Acupuncture treatment of the disease is unique and has significant clinical efficacy and good prospects for development.
