Abstract

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) refers to a degenerative disease caused by degeneration of cartilages, synovium, and ligaments of knee joints, manifested by knee joint dysfunction, such as pain, swelling, and deformity. The main symptoms include knee joint pain, limited extension and flexion, knee joint effusions, stiffness, cracking sound, etc., consequently leading to walking disability and decrease of quality of life. Currently, without any specific drugs, Western medicine usually employs symptomatic treatments to managed KOA, e.g., anti-inflammation and analgesia, intraarticular injection, and joint replacement. However, these treatments all have noticeable adverse reactions and the efficacies are not stable. We adopted warm needling moxibustion plus tuina to treat KOA due to cold-dampness blocking collaterals.
