Abstract
The benefits of contact needling result entirely from its regulation of the autonomic nervous system via the skin. Skin contact regulates the autonomic nervous system by moderating an increase in negative ions on the skin surface that occurs when the sympathetic nervous system is overactive, or by moderating an increase in positive ions that occurs when the parasympathetic nervous system is overactive.
