Abstract
Central serous retinopathy manifests as a loss of the central visual field, distortion of viewed objects and colours, and impaired distance perception. Funduscopic examination checking the base of the eye shows macular swelling and weakened or absent foveal reflex, and in the later stages there will appear a collection of lipid and protein material beneath the outer layer of the retina known as drusen. This will show up as pale yellow spots on the retina. There are many factors in aetiology, including exudative deposits visible on fluoroscopic examination. In my 35 years of practice I have seen over 1000 cases, and in my opinion the best treatment is Yi Qi Cong Ming Tang (Augment the Qi and Increase Acuity Decoction) for cases due to turbid dampness constrained and accumulating together with distrubance of internal organ qi, Spleen deficiency and weak qi, and those who have relapsed or are difficult to treat.
