Abstract
This paper collects and reviews the most recent clinical studies pertaining to the application of acupuncture in the area of disorders related to gynecology. We divide these applications into ten sections: irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, premenstrual syndrome, menopausal syndrome, pelvic inflammatory disease, polycystic ovary syndrome, infertility, endometriosis, fibroids and symptoms with breast cancer. The studies reviewed in this paper demonstrate both the time-tested classical and the contemporary innovative approach of acupuncture to gynecological conditions, and justify a wider application of acupuncture in gynecology. Although many rigorous clinical trials and a number of systematic reviews and meta-analysis have been conducted on most of the gynecological disorders, it also reveals the need for even more well-designed and rigorous research studies.
