Acupuncture and psychological treatment vs drug therapy in treatment of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
Description
Objective: to observe the efficacy and adverse reactions of acupuncture and psychological treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children. Methods: 120 diagnosed patients were randomly divided into two groups, one an integrated group, receiving acupuncture and psychological therapy, another a drug group, receiving methylphenidate hydrochloride therapy. Treatment was administered for 12 weeks. Connexion scale was determined before treatment and re-examined proceeding the 8th and 12th weeks during treatment. Results: acupuncture and psychological therapy showed better hyperactivity index score than drug therapy alone. Conclusions: satisfactory results could be eventually obtained by acupuncture plus psychotherapy, and which showed important medical significance in preventing and treating ADHD in children.
