Abstract

As outlined in The Lantern Vol 12-1 article detailing the history of Song family gynaecology, the records of this lineage extended back to Song Guang-Ping in the Tang dynasty. The family followed the northern court when it moved south in the 11th century and established itself in Hangzhou and Ningbo, that city being then known as Si Ming, named after the nearby Si Ming Shan: Four Illumination Mountain. My own teacher, Song Guang-Ji (1920-97), was the 37th generation of the family to practise Song family gynaecology. The following are some of the formulas he used as a basis for treating beng luo: irregular uterine bleeding.
